Domain Name Questions

Can I check domain name availability?

Yes. You can use our domain name availability form located on our associated page at http://www.fulldns.com.

Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the 'www.'?

Yes. Both.

Do you handle domain registration?

We will register your domain name for you at no charge.

Will domain names be registered under my name?

You will be listed as the Admin and Billing contact as well as the registrant. Host-Host will be listed as the technical contact.

Will I be able to move my domain elsewhere if I wish?

Yes. The domain will be registered under your name and as such can be moved whenever and wherever you want at any time.

Can I transfer my existing domain?

Yes. Whether you place an order by telephone or via our online order form, be sure to specify that you are requesting a transfer and NOT a new domain. You should keep the service at your present site while waiting for your domain name to transfer. We will provide you with a temporary IP address so you can mirror your site on our server. All e-mail and Web pages will still be accessed from your current site. When InterNIC receives the request, they will generate an acknowledgment request (Ack/Nak) and send it to the current administrative and technical contact of the domain. Once the administrative or technical contact acknowledges the transfer, InterNIC will update their records.

It is very important that you use the same email address on the template as that which is on file at InterNIC. If the email address differs from that which is on file, InterNIC will treat the transfer as a delete/new and will not allow the transfer to be completed.

If the contact information for the domain is no longer current, you will need to prepare a fax on company letterhead, as follows:

  1. Include company name, address and phone number in the header
  2. Reference the domain name and NIC tracking number
  3. Request the domain name modification in accordance with the NIC number to the new Name Servers
  4. Have the President or Vice-President of your company sign the request
  5. Print the name and title below signature
  6. Fax this letter to us, ATTN: DOMREG department with 'InterNIC' as the subject.

How long does it take before my domain name is active?

It can take anywhere from 24 hours to one week before the interNIC processes your registration. Once the InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes about 72 hours before it visible to all users of the Internet. All Internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This process is called propagation

I signed up x days ago and my domain is still not active. How come? What can I do?

If you signed up more than 3 business days ago and your domain has still not transferred to our servers, there are several possible reasons why the interNIC has not yet processed your domain transfer. When you signed up with Host-Host, a domain modification form was automatically sent to the InterNIC on your behalf requesting that your domain name be transferred to our servers. The InterNIC then sends an acknowledgment request (Ack/Nak) to the Administrative and Technical contact of the domain. If you are not the Technical or Administrative contact for the domain or you are no longer receiving email at the address you used when you first registered the domain, then you will never receive this email. If this is the case, then you will need to contact the InterNIC and they will arrange to have you fax some information to them to verify ownership of your domain and to approve the transfer. If you did receive and reply to the acknowledgment request and it has been more than 48 hours, then there may be something else holding up this process and you should contact us at support@host-host.com.

No. We recommend you keep your service with your old provider until you have transferred all of your files and your domain is pointing to our servers. This will allow you to avoid any unnecessary downtime.

Can I transfer an international domain name to your servers?

In most cases yes. Certain countries require that the site itself be hosted within that country. You will need to contact your local NIC to find out. If they do allow you to host your site within the U.S. and your domain name is not handled by the interNIC, then you will need to submit a transfer request on your own .
